For the past few months, I have been fretting and fretting about what I am about to tell you. I don’t know how you will take it, but I feel the best thing to do is to just let it out. So here it goes….
A little over a year ago, I heard David Akuetteh of Luv FM (Multimedia Group) interviewing a lady on his show, The Diary. After hearing bits and bobs of her story, I sent David a message ‘David, Betty is The Fabulous Woman. Please, I would like to interview her so get her contact details for me’ A month later, we published a mind-blowing interview about Onyameba Betty. If you haven’t read her story ‘LEGS OR NO LEGS, I’LL PRAISE MY CREATOR’ already, please take a pause and read it here (https://web.facebook.com/Thefabulouswomannetwork/photos/a.508897335936062.1073741828.503765366449259/514825675343228/?type=3). We had massive feedback on our page following this story and I have no doubt that many lives were touched.
At The Fabulous Woman Speaks conference, Betty ministered (https://web.facebook.com/Thefabulouswomannetwork/videos/543583555800773/) and it was just amazing. All she wants to do is to sing for her Creator, even after everything she has been through. And you should meet her, she is so nice! Before this, my friend and Fabulous Photographer Vera Obeng had been to her house to do some photoshoots for the conference exhibition. During their chats, Vera found out that Betty hoped that one day, she could walk again. When I got to know of this, we devised a plan to raise funds for Betty’s prosthetic legs, this was supposed to be a surprise for her during the conference. I called the Orthopedic Training Center (OTC, Nsawam-Ghana) and was informed that it would cost roughly 4000 cedis to get the prosthetic legs.
God being so good, on the day of the conference we raised over 4000 cedis (one lady gave us 2000 cedis for the exhibited piece and the other conference participants all chipped in) for Betty after Vera’s exhibition which was very emotional. We are so grateful to all who donated, even after the event.
Vera and I agreed that we needed to follow up on Betty’s progress so we decided to go to her hospital appointments with her. Little did we know that the process was very complex and demanded way more money than just the cost of the procedure. We first went to Betty’s original doctor at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (Kumasi, Ghana), who gave us the go ahead to go to OTC. Since then we have met the very nice doctor who will be undertaking Betty’s procedure thrice at Nsawam, Jachie and Duayaw Nkwanta. Betty has had to have a minor surgery as well as do a number of work outs all in preparation of this procedure; these of course came with unexpected bills.
We still do not know the actual date for the procedure, we will find out during our next visit in February. What we know for sure is that we need way more money than we originally thought. Apart from the cost of the procedure, she will be resident at OTC for 3 – 6 months. After our last visit, I said to Vera worriedly, ‘we need more money for Betty. I don’t know where we will find that kind of money’ and she replied, ‘don’t worry Ama, remember you are not alone in this’ Aww my sweet Vera, the Camboo Bride!
Hmmmm so there! That’s my big worry: for the procedure to happen, we need 10,000 cedis more and we need your help. We are asking you to help us make our sister’s dream of walking again come true. We are asking you humbly; kindly give your mite to help us raise 10,000 cedis for Onyameba Betty.
We have set up a separate account for this purpose (we will keep you updated on her progress):
